Favourite Looks from Victoria Secret 2009

I have been watching Victoria's Secret Runway since early 2000s and have fallen in love with the ethereal wings that they came out with each year. From angels sweeping the length and breadth of the ceiling and having them march like toy soldiers the VS runway never failed to disappoint. I'm really glad they have Doutzen Kroes as a VS angel, not only is she breathtakingly beautiful but has the perfect body for a lingerie model.Marissa Miller ought to retire and I sorely missed Adriana Lima. What did you'll think?

Georgia Jagger for Versace

Yes, that red pout is back albeit slightly different and a whole lot younger. Georgia May Jagger, offspring of rock royalty Mick Jagger and supermodel Jerry Hall has been signed on as the face of Versace. This follows up her signing on to be the face of cosmetics giant Rimmel which is fronted by Kate Moss and Lily Cole. This month she lands the cover of British Vogue do I see a supermodel in making? I think so..

Christian Louboutin for Barbie

Barbie sure is one lucky lady! After being adored by little girls all over the world for over half a century , she is now going to be adorned with shoes made by none other than iconic shoe maker Christian Louboutin. The limited edition doll will retail mid December for about 150 $ and will come out with three variants. It's sure to be be a hit with fashionista moms and collectors alike.

Quote of the Day :- Alber Elbaz

I think 'modesty' is a beautiful word today - and a beautiful attitude.

Harper's Bazaar India :- Suzanne Roshan

source : tfs forums

What happens when you run out of the leading ladies to feature in your magazine? Why, you turn to the star wives who have been in the shadows of their husbands and put them on the cover! Harper's has done just that. Suzanne Roshan known for being the demure wife of Hrithik Roshan. Some how the shots just don't do it for me, she looks gaunt and forced. What do you'll think?

Cover Shot : Elle India November 2009 - Lara Dutta

source: tfs forums

Elle India ( which happens to be my favourite Indian fashion magazine ) has put the uber stylish Lara Dutta on their November cover. This is the second cover in a row from Elle to have a monochromatic look. The Dolce and Gabbana Marilyn dress has been seen on the cover of Grazia before but a different version. Im loving the clean cover . You?

Personal :-

In school Slam books were a rage. 6 years after passing out of school I don't suppose the trend still exits. The basic questions were always favourite food, actor, movie etc. While most answers were the typical tween stuff I thought why not include it in my blog but from a fashion /beauty perspective.

History - :I have lived all my life in Bombay, India and have been interested in fashion since an early age I considered being a fashion designer but the thought of sewing put me off. After flirting with other career options I finally decided to work in a fashion magazine. My dream was soon realized shortly after graduation however it wasn't in my desired field nevertheless I took up the opportunity to learn as much as I could in the business. So 6 months on here I am.

Addictions - : I love perfume. It surpasses all. I own about 15 of them and I still want more! Current wishlist is Chanel Chance and Estee Lauder Provocative Woman.

Weakness - Earrings, I own about 40 pairs of earrings and I have realized its getting a bit out of hand. I love silver and most of my earrings are of silver however recently I have been experimenting with different materials such as shell and other metals such as gold.

Beauty Must Have - Mascara! Mascara! Mascara! I LOVE Mascara. I think it's a must have in everyones beauty closet. Most of my masacaras were bought by my brother during his trip to the US. Most favourite is Clinique and Biottherm . I recently acquired a MAC one and Oriflame one.

Favourite Shopping Haunt - Colaba Causeway . Nothing beats it hands down!

Favourite Blog : Tough one but it probably would be Glamourai.

Favourite Fashion Magazine - Elle wins hands down . I also love Allure, Dazed and Confused and Nylon Magazine.

Favourite Runway Model - Coco Rocha

Favourite Designers - Alber Elbaz, Tom Ford, Donatella Versace , Manish Arora, Rajesh Pratap Singh , Shahab Durazi and John Galliano . oh and Dries Van Noten and Viktor and Rolf.

Icon - Cliched but Audrey Hepburn and Edith Head.

Love - Perfumes , Earrings, books, art , music, FOOD! my family and best friends. Cheese and Goa.

Hate - Liars and back-stabbers also label whores.

Grouse - Indians tend to forget that we have a rich culture and varied arts and crafts that we tend to toss aside to embrace westernization. I am not this crazed out 'bhartiya naari' person but I find it funny that the west think of us as exotic and mysterious and appreciate out handicrafts when we ourselves don't.

Wishlist - Shoes and skinny jeans.

Cover Shot ;- Elle India October 2009 Giselle Monteiro

Of all the fashion magazines released this month this has got to be my favourite. The Pose , the minimal styling and the fierce shoes just do it for me. Hard to believe the cover girl is Brazilian even though the height, skin colour and features betray it she can pass of as an Indian.

Shopping Destination :- Colaba Causeway

I love Colaba. There is a certain charm about it that no Hill Road/Pheonix Mill/Inorbit can replace. Maybe its the old world charm with the quaint old buildings , double decker buses sweeping by and the numerous mirrored Indian handicrafts waiting to be bought by tourists.
Causeway has a myraid of stores ranging from dirt cheap to expensive. The stretch includes sports shops such as Nike and Adidas , Jewellery stores such as Curio Cottage , Sangam and Aquamarine as well as affordable clothes such as Cottonworld, Cotton Colour , PAX and Kalapi.
Three roadside stalls are famous for their export surplus clothes. One can find brands such as Topshop Zara and H&M.
I have spent many hours roaming Causeway since it was close proximity to my school. From ice creams at Mc Donalds and later graduating to Beer at Cafe Mondegar (pictured above) I have possibly found everything I need for a fashionista's wardrobe. From attractive kolhapuri chappals, a cheap sundress, numerous tee shirts, Expensive silver earrings, 20 rupees hoop earrings to ethnic Indian lipstick cases.
If I ever have to leave Bombay I will sorely miss Colaba nothing can replace it . Not Oxford street or 5th Avenue or Champs Elysees.

Interlocking C

"A woman must always be 2 things Classy and Fabulous" - Coco Chanel

Sadly in this day and age not many people are. Labels wear the person not the other way around. While Lady Gaga may be applauded for her jaw dropping outfits and unique sense of style there is no doubt that many people do question her sanity and the fact that she is trying to outdo Madonna.
Chanel's contribution to fashion is immense. Most of our everyday wardrobe staples have been contributed by her. Some of them are as follows.

1- Signature Perfume

2- The Classic Little Black Dress ( where would we be without this wardrobe staple ? )

3- Pants . Chanel was the first person to introduce pants for women.

4 - Pearls

5- The Chanel Suit

6- Tweed

Wishlist :- Christian Louboutin Feticha

We already have Jimmy Choo here in India. Its high time Louboutin launched in India. He has a strong fan following in Bollywood and among socialites with the likes of Malaika Arora Khan , Sophie Chaudhary ,Twinkle Khanna and Priyanka Chopra all sporting them. The Feticha is definitely a must buy. Very elegant, classic and sexy at the same time. Im gonna be a good girl so that Santa can get me these shoes ! ;)

Purple Alert :- Red Carpet.

Black is always the new Black.
I want to avoid red carpet images on my blog, however it was refreshing to see purple play a dominant colour on the red carpet. Ginnifer Goodwin , Mary Louise Parker,Eva Longoria and Lindsay Price all adopted the colour of royalty. Hope many more embrace it too including our Bollywood actresses

Fab Finder : Gold Kolhapuris

Bought from : Colaba Causeway Stall near Shilpi Kendra next to Sahkari Bhandar . Rs 175

Everyone knows Kolhapuris are a staple in most Indian's footwear wardrobe. These versatile sandals can be paired with both Indian as well as Western wear. Can be paired with a nice graphic skirt and plain tee or Churidar or skinny jeans.

Cover Shot :- L'Officiel India - Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar

Bollywood's current 'It' couple have graced the cover of L'Officiel India . Twinkle is wearing the same purple Dior gown as Shilpa on Harper's . The choice of Twinkle seems apt. She is always impeccably dressed, her husband Akshay Kumar is the ruling king of bollywood having knocked Shahrukh firmly off the pedestal. The Cover works alot better than the Vogue one in terms of styling and overall presentation.

Harper's Bazaar India - Shilpa

Finally Uncovered : Shilpa is wearing Dior Pre Fall. Loving the purple on the cover ;) and the minimal text . Not a fan of the hair.

Tom Ford IS BACK!

Image from Telegraph word press

According to Twitter Vogue UK , Tom Ford is back to designing for women. While my favourite designer is Alber Elbaz I do love Tom Ford. I was first exposed to high fashion when FTV was launched in India and carried his shows. It was probably the first runway show I had ever seen with a very young Carmen Kass walking the ramp. What Tom did was unique, jaw dropping and controversial . Always pushing the envelope haven't seen any designer do something like him. He even went to the extent of painting his model's nipples purple. ( Right colour ) His women were always sexy, sophisticated and modern. Gucci hasn't been the same since he left.

His Fall 1996 runway show

Shilpa Shetty in Harper's Bazaar India October 2009

Shilpa Shetty may be the 'it' woman in India but other than starring in a D grade celebrity show in the UK she will always remain a C grade actress in Bollywood who had zero taste in clothes. This sudden clamour to feature her on magazines is all due to the fact she got herself a sugar daddy and wears labels but has little taste. Personally I like the 2nd image of the backdrop.

Vogue India October 2009

Vogue India celebrates their 2nd year anniversary this October. Their aim was to recreate the magic of India's favourite onscreen couple Kajol and Shahrukh. However this again is another disappointing cover . It looks as if it ought to be on the cover of Filmfare or any other magazine dealing with Bollywood.Sharukh looks very wannabe 20 with his open shirt and gelled hair. Kajol is flawless but her expression seems pained.Wished they did something more fashion forward and more international looking. Any opinions?

Intern Chronicles

As anyone in the publishing industry will tell you, 'Closing' the issue is a period of immense stress. Pages get added, some dropped , some changed with a drop of a hat . Its also the period Edit , Art , Photo all secretly plan on joining forces to assassinate the Editor in Chief.
As an intern working for the first time in such a publication in a largely estrogen filled team the bitchiness tends to come out right in the open. Ideas are shoved aside, rumours are spread and eating disorders rampant. Ideas are blatantly lifted from rival publications and images worth a few 1000 $ are bought with a blink of an eye and raises of salaries met with harsh glares.
Today on the last day of closing, our cover changed twice, a story by a reader stock images were used as some were not pretty enough . The features team bitched openly , the stylist looked through references at Jak and Jill.
Life is all about an LV bag.

Cover Shot! : Vogue India September Issue

Having an international supermodel on the cover of an Indian magazine would be considered something of great achievement here in India, however I think the cover falls flat. Her hair is horrible and looking unkempt, the face is too splotchy for my liking and the left thigh is very discoloured. Think the image of her on the sari would have looked better on the cover. The bikini isn't very attention grabbing .
